WAIT, LEGO BRICKS?…

Yes, LEGO®. Because something happens when we think with our hands.

LEGO® Serious Play® (LSP) is a renowned facilitation method backed by learning theory and used globally by organisations like Google, NASA, FedEx, the NHS and the UN. It works because it’s hands-on, metaphor-driven and deeply inclusive.

What sounds playful helps unlock serious insight.

A few quick facts about LSP

  • It is backed by academic research (IMD, MIT)

  • It is built on constructivist and constructionism (learning theories)

  • It’s used by top-tier organisations worldwide

Not Just Team Building

LSP is ideal for teams that need to think together, not just talk.
It works especially well for:

  • Exploring strategy

  • Reimagining services or business models

  • Aligning teams after change

  • Rethinking customer experiences

  • Designing better ways of working

  • Making space for every voice

This isn’t a building exercise so you won’t find any Millennium Falcons here (sorry!).
It’s about building meaning and gaining insight through metaphor.

YOUR QUESTIons answered

The most common questions asked about LEGO® Serious Play®

Is this just for big companies?

Not at all.
While LSP has been used by global brands like Google and NASA, it’s equally powerful for small teams, startups, charities and consulting firms. If you’ve got a tricky problem or a big conversation to have, it just works.

Can we combine this with other methods or tools?

Absolutely.
That’s part of what makes my approach different. I often blend LSP with things like design thinking, storyboarding, or generative AI tools - whatever fits your challenge best.

What happens in a session?

Everyone gets some LEGO® and a series of carefully crafted challenges.

We use hands-on model building to explore ideas, express perspectives and make thinking visible. Questions are then invited on each person’s model. It’s structured, inclusive and surprisingly effective - even for people who normally stay quiet.

Is it just a team-building exercise?

Team-building is a bonus, but that’s not the core.

This is about exploring strategy, values, communication and change in a radically different way. We’re not here for icebreakers…we’re here for breakthroughs.

Do I need to be ‘creative’ for this to work?

You already are. Creativity isn’t a rare gift - it’s a combination of things you already use every day:

Knowledge (what you know and have experienced)

Imagination (your ability to picture new possibilities)

Evaluation (how you make choices or spot patterns)

Attitude (your willingness to lean in and give it a go)

What if my team is sceptical?

That’s normal, and it usually disappears within the first 10 minutes. The method invites people in, not forces them. It’s playful, but never silly - and it earns its keep fast. Play and fun can lead to serious outcomes!

How long do sessions last?

They can be short and sharp (90 minutes), half-day, or full-day formats - depending on your goal.
Need a focused value-prop session? 3 hours.

Need to align a leadership team around strategy or culture? We’ll go deeper.

Isn’t it just the LEGO® that makes it work?

The bricks are brilliant, but they’re not the whole story. What really makes LEGO® Serious Play® powerful is the facilitation:

  • Asking the right questions

  • Guiding the flow

  • Creating a space where everyone feels safe to contribute

  • Helping teams reflect and make connections

Without skilled facilitation, it’s just play.
With it, it becomes shared understanding and progress.
